Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) unveiled what it touts as the industry's first family of single-chip PC clock devices optimized for next-generation notebook PCs based on Intel centrino mobile technology (code-named sonoma), which will integrate PCI Express.

According to IDT, the new family of four phase-locked loop (PLL)-based PC clocks enable complete and independent control of key clock circuits within the system for the efficient power management and increased flexibility needed to support long battery life for portable systems. In addition, the device family offers built-in independent spread-spectrum control (SSC) to aid in the reduction of electromagnetic emissions (EMI).

Said to be the only single-chip clocking solutions available today for the Sonoma notebook platform, the new devices deliver board space and component cost savings over alternative two-chip products. Designers can use the independent clock variance to stress test systems, and a VDD-suspend pin allows programming to be maintained in power-down mode, with power consumption

As with existing IDT PC clock product offerings, this product family offers independent clocking for PCI Express, CPU, SATA (Serial ATA) and USB interfaces. Pricing for the new PC clocks starts at 99 cents each in 10,000-unit quantities. Additional information can be found online.
