Accelerated Technology, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics, announced a new addition to their prototyping product line that provides the Nucleus USB software support in the Nucleus SIMdx prototyping environment.

According to the press release, the new Nucleus SIM software for USB allows developers to build Nucleus RTOS and Nucleus USB software applications without the need for hardware, giving them an earlier start for software development.

As reduced product development cycles become critical to success, developers need a feature-rich tool that can help them prototype their products and get them to market before the competition, said Accelerated Tech. Using the Nucleus SIMdx prototyping tool, developers can quickly and simply prototype their complete embedded system, including the man-machine-interface (MMI), input/output (I/O) and peripherals on a development host such as Windows or Linux.

The new Nucleus SIM software for USB includes an application-programming interface (API) for simulating USB hosts and functions, and comes with a demonstration consisting of host-side and client-side (function) mass storage device operations. This product is suitable for use in early USB application prototyping, proof of concept, and for evaluating USB system architectural concepts before product hardware is available.

"The introduction of the Nucleus SIM software for USB accelerates projects requiring USB support," commented Robert Day, director of marketing for the embedded systems division. "Since embedded applications that utilize the Nucleus USB software can now be easily prototyped, a large part of the software can be tested before target hardware is available, helping to bring the embedded designs out on time and on spec."

The Nucleus embedded software is sold in source code format and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus SIMdx software begin at $4,995, and licenses for the Nucleus SIM for USB software begin at $995.
