Accelerated Technology, a Mentor Graphics division announced that its Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel has been used by NEC America Inc. (NEC) to develop the NEC 515, 525 and 535M high definition mobile+ (HDM) phones. The Nucleus PLUS kernel provides NEC the platform from which to build its feature-intensive mobile devices.

The Nucleus PLUS kernel is solid and flexible suitable for the rich capabilities that consumers require from their multimedia mobile phones, including digital cameras, gaming applications, Web browsing with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Internet connection and complicated task settings (such as various ring tone options, extended calendar and currency converter capabilities).

"Mobile phone users want devices that combine product innovation with rich mobile content and advanced capabilities," said Noboru Sakata, general manager, NEC's wireless division. "Working with Accelerated Technology has allowed us to deliver phones that go beyond simple talk-only handsets and drive robust features and functionality into our users' hands," Sakata added.
