TI op amp provides high dynamic range

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) unveiled a dual, high-output current, high-gain bandwidth operational amplifier from its Burr-Brown product line.

Featuring low input voltage noise with exceptionally low harmonic distortion, the OPA2614 provides high dynamic range for digital subscriber line (DSL) driver solutions in differential configurations. Typical applications include driving 16bit ADCs, such as TI's ADS1605 16bit, 5MSPS ADC, high-capacitive loads and multiple load video lines. Additionally, the OPA2614 is suitable for precision baseband I/Q receiver channels, low distortion audio amplifiers and active filters.

"The OPA2614 is an exceptional differential line driver through low to moderate frequencies," said Michael Steffes, strategic marketing manager of TI's high-speed signal processing group. "And the voltage feedback design gives the lowest total output noise for any currently available line driver solution."

The new amplifier has a flexible supply range of 5V to 12V for single condition and 2.5V to 6V for dual design. Single 5V operation as a differential I/O interface to ADC inputs can support 14 to 16bit converters with no degradation in SNR or SFDR. In addition, the high power output stage of the device can easily drive heavy filter loads. According to the company, very high output current (350mA) coupled with a low gain stable design provides a good solution for driving large capacitive loads through moderate frequencies.

The OPA2614 is housed in a standard SO-8 package in both plastic and PSO-8 thermally enhanced packaging with an exposed heat slug. It has a suggested resale pricing of $1.55 in 1,000-piece quantities. For applications requiring very low gains or integrator-based filters, the OPA2613 (unity gain stable version) is recommended.
