Chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg Co. (TSMC) recently announced that it sees a necessity of putting up advanced processes in mainland China despite restrictions from the Taiwan government.

According to TSMC's Deputy CEO, F.C. Tseng, advanced technologies, including 0.18?m and 0.13?m process production lines, are becoming more in demand in mainland China. However, the Taiwan government currently allows only 0.25?m or less advanced technologies to be used for production.

The company is encouraging the government to ease off restrictions since local customers press the need for advancement. Tseng says that 80 percent of TSMC's clients are either shifting to 0.18?m or 0.13?m processes, and it is advisable to take on the opportunity for a larger market.
