MagnaChip CIS devices with 3.2?m unit pixel size

MagnaChip Semiconductor disclosed that it has started mass production of its HV7161SPA1 1.3Mpixel CMOS image sensor (CIS). The company also announced its 2.1Mpixel CIS (HV7171SP), which is already available for sampling and is scheduled for mass production in Q2 2005.

Both the 1.3Mpixel and 2.1Mpixel CIS products feature 3.2?m unit pixel size based on the 0.18?m technology, which, according to the press release, performs high sensitivity, well-balanced color reproduction and offers wide dynamic range.

According to MagnaChip, the high performance of the sensors is due to the integration of its proprietary Image Signal Processors (ISPs), which are capable of the smallest form factor size and low power consumption. These features are primary requirements in camera phone applications, added the company. The ISP of the 2.1Mpixel CMOS image sensor has been improved with an auto focus algorithm.

To meet the demand for higher density CIS in camera phones, MagnaChip said that they are also developing a 3.2Mpixel CIS based the 0.15?m technology. The company expects to showcase an engineering sample of this sensor in Q3 of 2005.
