Zoran unveils eight-gen Vaddis processor family

During CES 2005, Zoran Corp. introduced its eighth generation Vaddis 8 DVD multimedia processor family with the release of its first memberthe Vaddis 862.

According to the press release, the new Vaddis 8 product family is the world's first fully digital end-to-end solution for DVD players that includes a digital RF, servo, read channel and multimedia decoder. In addition, Zoran said, this family of devices reduces system cost by lowering system component count, and enables enhanced playability for best handling of scratched disks.

"Zoran's Vaddis 8 product family enables the next generation of advanced DVD players, combos (DVD-VCRs), portables, DVD-receivers and car entertainment systems. The Vaddis product line offers solutions for the full range of DVD players, from entry-level to the most advanced high definition-enabled DVD players," said Jinxiang (Gene) Liu, VP and GM at Zoran's DVD division.

The Vaddis 8 enables playing disks in the following formats: DVD/DVD+R/DVD-R/ DVD+RW/ DVD-RW/VCD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW. Additional features supported include JPEG viewing with Kodak PictureCD, playback of Microsoft WMA and compressed audio formats. In addition, this family of processors also supports Single Pixel Processing progressive scan technology, via component video output.

Samples and a complete reference design kit are already available.
