Maxim, ViXS to bring wireless TV to home entertainment market

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. and ViXS Systems have entered into a development partnership. The companies will deliver wireless video solutions that enable OEM and ODM customers to build high-quality video distribution products, such as wireless LCD and plasma YVs, HDTVs, projectors, media center PCs, home gateways, personal video recorders (PVRs) and DVD recorders.

According to Maxim, its MAX2829 single chip 802.11a/b/g RF transceiver operates over world-band frequencies of 2.4-2.5GHz and 4.9-5.9GHz. Its low-noise and high-linearity receiver and transmitter design help to increase range and throughput performance for wireless TVs. The MAX2829 fully supports ViXS' recently announced Matrix II 802.11 a/b/g baseband/MAC chip and the Matrix II-based WaveTV wireless reference design. Matrix II is claimed to be the first single-chip processor to provide dual-stream, high-definition (HD) wireless video distribution. Maxim is also collaborating with ViXS to develop a mini-PCI module reference design.

"The integration of Maxim's RF transceiver IC with ViXS' dual-channel Matrix II chip provides OEMs with a high quality-of-service (QoS) wireless video solution optimized to bring wireless television into consumers' homes," said Walter Lau, business manager of the wireless products from Maxim. "Our joint development will give OEMs and ODMs a superior, low-cost wireless video design platform that minimizes time-to-market and maximizes engineering productivity. We look forward to a continued relationship with ViXS," Lu added.
