In a show of increasing momentum, eASIC Corp. announced Monday (Jan. 10) it has landed two high-profile ASIC-industry executives for its management team.

Ronnie Vasishta, whose sudden departure from LSI Logic in late December triggered a round of rumors, has joined eASIC as executive vice president of marketing. Salah Werfelli, an ex-Cadence Design Systems executive and most recently with AmmoCore Technology, has joined as executive vice president of strategic business worldwide.

The company recently completed a funding round from Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, ending its reliance on bootstrap financing.

The company has developed a coarse-grained logic array that is configured using only a single via layer. Two partners, ST Microelectronics and Fujitsu, have demonstrated configuration of eASIC chips by writing the via patterns directly on wafers with an e-beam system, eliminating the need for a design-specific mask.

Immediate plans, according to Vasishta, include entering the structured ASIC market with a family of standard parts, and further marketing of the eASIC fabric as embeddable IP to application-specific standard product developers.
