STMicroelectronics and Scientific-Atlanta Inc. have announced they have begun full production on an integrated cable set-top box chip both companies teamed on developing.
Coined Atlas, the chip has over 56 million transistors and provides high-definition digital video recording and other video processing functions in a system-on-chip design.
The chip has been deployed in several of Scientific-Atlanta's set-top boxes and supports the company's Multi-Room digital video recorder, which enables consumers to access stored content and share it in up to three additional rooms.
