Intersil Corp. announced what it claims as the industry's first completely integrated triple analog delay line that enables systems using the company's video over twisted-pair products to transmit and receive skew-free RGB (red, green, blue) video over 1,000 feet of CAT-5 cable.

"The newest member of the Intersil video family is an elegant and cost effective solution for systems transmitting video signals over twisted-pair cabling, such as CAT-5," said Patrick Long, Intersil's marketing manager for Video Products. "The EL9115 allows system designers to replace banks of op amp circuits or folded traces consuming board space with a single 20-pin QFN device."

The EL9115 allows three channels to be independently delayed in 2ns steps, up to 62ns. According to the press release, this allows de-skewing of signals, such as RGB video that is transmitted over CAT-5 cabling. Now signals can be exactly aligned at the receiver for a razor sharp image, added Intersil.

The EL9115 is controlled through a simple serial interface and can be operated from 5V supplies. The interface allows manual control of the delay for each channel. This enables the user to adjust the delay until the skew is removed from the signal chain. Additionally, the new device uses a proprietary architecture to provide good channel-to-channel gain matching and percent delay accuracy. "Drawing from many years of high performance analog and op amp expertise, we have designed a product that solves a unique problem and delivers the performance, low power consumption and reliability that video applications demand," added Long.

The EL9115 is available in standard lead finish and Pb-free 20-pin QFN package.
