RF test equipment supplier Racal Instruments Wireless Solutions (RIWS) is now offering 15 of the 22 cellphone test cases outlined in Release 4 (Rel-4), approved by the GCF, and 12 for the ptcrb standards bodies. These test cases can help you shorten handset development lead times.

Release 4 is the next evolution of the 3gpp (3G partnership project) standards after Release 99. RIWS' test cases for Rel-4 certification include NACC (Network Assisted Cell Change) and Extended Uplink TBF on its 6103 AIME/CT platform (listed as Platform 11).

DTM, too

In addition, the company launched DTM (Dual Transfer Mode) test capability on its 6103 AIME platform. RIWS said it's well advanced in validating DTM test cases, too. DTM provides the ability to use circuit switched and packet switched connections to one mobile simultaneously.

RIWS also claims a good track record in delivering approved test cases. According to the company, research shows that RIWS test platforms have shown the lowest number of down-graded and re-categorized test cases for GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, indicating the fewest errors have been found by manufacturers and test labs after validation has been performed.

The significance of this to you if you're a handset manufacturer is that users of RIWS's test platforms suffer less disruption and lost man-hours investigating why tests aren't performing as expected due to test case disqualification during terminal R&D or the certification process.
