Qualcomm Inc. disclosed the on-time sampling of its Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM6275 chipset for W-CDMA (umts) with support for high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), a next-generation feature of the W-CDMA standard and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (EGPRS).

Delivering peak data rates of 1.8Mbps, the MSM6275 chipset allows faster transmission of larger data files and improved file transfer capabilities to drive commercial wireless multimedia by enabling advanced gaming, music distribution services and the faster streaming of multimedia files, said the press release.

"Qualcomm is driving the commercialization of HSDPA with the availability of our MSM6275 chipset, which delivers the higher data rates required to take wireless multimedia into the mainstream marketplace," said Dr. Sanjay Jha, the company's president for its CDMA Technologies. "HSDPA provides higher data ratesand more important, higher network capacityso consumers and enterprise users can transfer pictures, videos and large files quickly and economically over next-generation wireless networks, creating additional revenue-generating opportunities for operators."

The MSM6275 chipset is part of Qualcomm's Enhanced Multimedia Platform, which includes the MSM6150, MSM6280, MSM6550 and MSM6800 solutions. These are integrated chipsets with support for all major air interfaces that deliver increased processing power with lower battery consumption. Additionally, the Enhanced Multimedia Platform chipsets are software compatible to promote portability of advanced multimedia applications between Enhanced Multimedia-enabled handsets.
