Tadiran Batteries rolled out a new high voltage/high rate AA-sized lithium battery specifically designed for military and aerospace applications requiring high power, long life and extended storage, such as sonobuoys, unattended ground sensors, UAVs, listening devices, mines, weapons sights, tracking devices, night vision, thermal sights, EPIRBs, communications systems and other remote sensing devices.

Packing 2W of energy at 4V into a AA-size cell, the new TLM 1550 features an open circuit voltage of 4V, and the ability to handle pulses of up to 15A, with 5A maximum continuous load. This AA-sized battery offers long life in extreme environmental conditions, including a self-discharge rate of less than 3 percent per year at room temperature, and a temperature range of -40C to 85C.

Tadiran added that the TLM 1550 battery is extremely safe since its solvents are non-toxic and non-pressurized, and its anode material is less reactive than that found in other lithium cells. According to the company, the battery has performed well in a variety of safety tests, including nail penetration, crush tests, high temperature chambers, short circuit and charge tests.
