In a bid to support the growing wireless and portable market in South Korea, ON Semiconductor has decided to build a solutions engineering center (SEC) in Seoul. The center is scheduled to be completed in May 2005.

The Seoul SEC would be headed by S.B. Lee. Lee joined ON Semiconductor in December 2004, and has had 30 years of experience in power solutions. He was recently known as the country manager for Maxim Integrated Products Inc. in Korea.

"Korea shares over 30 percent of the global wireless market. Growth is driving demand for PDAs, MP3s and digital-still cameras," Lee said.

The Seoul facility, the first of the company's SECs to be opened in Asia, will concentrate on providing in-depth development platform and product support to Korean manufacturers of cellular handsets and handheld electronic devices.

Lee shared, "Our main customers include Samsung, LG, Pantech & Curitel, Motorola and other Tier 2 companies in Korea. We also have customers in Asia."

"SEC's concept of driving cost-effective and space-saving portable power solutions for key customers is another win-win strategy for our customers and ON Semiconductor," he added.

ON Semiconductor is a supplier of advanced power solutions to engineers, purchasing professionals, distributors and contract manufacturers in the computer, cellphone, portable devices, automotive and industrial markets.
