Bluetooth chip specialist CSR plc is expanding its operations in Taiwan and moving to new facilities to expand its design support activities. The new office is located in the Neihu high-technology park in Taipei.

The extra design work to support a growing customer base in the country comes on the back of ODMs and OEMs there increasingly working on products with the enhanced data rate (EDR) Bluetooth, according to CSR, and choosing its reference platforms.

The Cambridge, England based company was the first to be able to supply single chip parts conforming to the v2.0 EDR specifications, the BlueCore4, which can deliver 3-times faster data rates and consumes much less power. CSR Taiwan first opened in 2003 and was originally operating with three staff helping to serve customers in Taiwan and the wider Asia region. This was increased to 10 by the end of 2004.

The company says with the opening of the 4,800sq-ft office and design and test facilities, it will be looking to expand the number of engineers and sales support staff in the area.
