PFU Ltd, a Fujitsu group company, and PFU Systems Inc. presented first samples of its 4th generation Plug-N-Run modules, which are based on the com express standard, a new and open picmg industry standard for PCI Express Computer-on-Modules.

"With the Plug-N-Run G4 product line, we are taking embedded computing to an entirely new performance level," said Hirotake Shinde, director of PFU's engineering computer products group. "Through the combination of advanced CPUs and chipsets with PCI Express and SATA, and PFU's expertise in advanced design and manufacturing of highly reliable and cost-effective products, we are delivering to our customers best-in-class COM Express modules."

Main features of the new modules include on-board high-performance 2D/3D graphics; one x16 PCI Express Graphics expansion link at 40Gbps; four x1 PCI Express links for an aggregate throughput of 10Gbps; dual SerialATA-150 links for aggregate bandwidth of 300Mbps; up to 2GB DDR2 memory expansion; dual LVDS and SDVO channels; and optional heat spreader. In addition, they are compatible with Linux, BSD, and Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

Limited sample quantities will be available in March, with general availability scheduled for May.
