Central Semiconductor announced a series of TRIACs with an extended current range. The industry standard current for TRIACs in a SOT-223 surface mount package is 1A. The company now manufactures 2A devices, designated CQ223-2M and CQ223-2N, as well as 4A TRIACs, designated CQ223-4M and CQ223-4N, all in the SOT-223 package.

The M suffix signifies a peak repetitive off-state voltage of 600V, while the N suffix signifies 800V. These devices are rated at a gate trigger current (IGT) of 5mA (max) in quadrants I, II and III, and 9mA (max) in quadrant IV. The SOT-223 package, with a profile of 1.8mm, is ideal for small electronic products requiring the functionality of a TRIAC.

The devices are available bulk packed or 1,000 pieces on 7-inch tape and reel. Prices for the CQ223-2M start at 24 cents each for 1,000 pieces, while the CQ223-4M starts at 32 cents each for 1,000 pieces.
