Dawin, Samsung SDI begin mass production of PDP panel SoCs

IC design manufacturer Dawin Technology Inc. and panel maker Samsung SDI Co. Ltd announced that they commenced mass-production of newly developed SoC solutions for standard definition (SD) level next-generation V4 plasma display panels (PDPs).

According to Dawin, the SoC -- a PDP controller ic -- promises an increase in sales contribution to Krw10 billion ($9.7 million at Krw1,027:$1) this year. The devices are also seen to be replacing the traditional timing controller ICs used in TFT-LCDs.

Further, the company said that the high-definition (HD) level research for the product is already undergoing, while its development and volume production will commence before the year's first half ends.
