Imagination makes graphics progress with TI, Philips

Imagination Technologies Group plc, a developer of graphics cores, has licensed its PowerVR MBX Lite graphics core for integration into a new range of applications processors based on TI's OMAP2 architecture for mobile phones. In addition the company said that the PNX4008 chip from Philips, targeted at smartphones, incorporates PowerVR MBX graphics IP licensed by Philips Semiconductors through ARM in Mar. 2004.

The deal with TI extends the existing collaboration between Imagination Technologies and TI that has already seen the PowerVR MBX graphics core, integrated into TI's OMAP2 architecture.

"We are delighted that TI, a leader in the wireless semiconductor market, is building on our existing co-operation and extending their deployment of PowerVR MBX. This important extension of our collaboration will enable advanced graphics capabilities and state-of-the-art gaming content to be brought to an even wider range of mobile handsets and their users," said Hossein Yassaie, chief executive officer of Imagination Technologies, in a statement.
