Motorola Corp. has acquired MeshNetworks Inc., a developer of mobile mesh networking and position location technologies that allow customers to deploy Internet Protocol (IP)-based wireless broadband networks.

The acquisition, completed on December 21, 2004, enables Motorola to provide its customers across Asia Pacific with a broader solutions portfolio to build scalable broadband wireless networks capable of delivering next-generation content including data, video, location and voice over IP (VoIP) services.

In Asia Pacific, MeshNetwork' technologies will give end users access to mobile broadband connectivity for mission critical data communications. With wide area mobile broadband coverage, the technology enables users to form an instant broadband network among themselves in the field- even if surrounding network infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
