Agilent Technologies Inc. has completed its acquisition of Wavics, a South Korean-based designer and manufacturer of power amplifier modules for the worldwide mobile handset market. The companies had announced an acquisition agreement Jan. 20, 2005.

Agilent also announced the Agilent Asia Mobile Development Center in Seoul, South Korea, which will provide a new base for R&D, marketing and applications support close to Agilent's growing number of Asian customers.

The combination of Wavics' patented CoolPAM power amplifier technology and Agilent's miniature fbar (film bulk acoustic resonator) filters is expected to give Agilent a highly differentiated product that exceeds competitive solutions and further extends Agilent's market leadership in power amplifiers.

The Agilent Asia Mobile Development Center will develop innovative semiconductor solutions and speed product development for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), ODMs (original design manufacturers) and mobile handset manufacturers based in Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. The center will focus on mobile-technology R&D, marketing and applications support. Its initial staff will include more than 50 engineers, including the engineering team from Wavics.
