Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced video testing capabilities for its wireless network optimization platform that enable RF engineering teams to quantify wireless user experience during video calls and help identify the cause of problems. By enabling a smooth introduction and ongoing maintenance of wireless video services, the solution helps service providers ensure high quality of service and maximum revenue, the company says.

"Testing flexibility is a requirement in an industry where diverse service offerings are supported by a complex collection of multi-vendor devices, protocols and interfaces," said Tom Walls, VP, general manager of Agilent's telecommunication systems division. "With the platform's easy-to-use and customizable interface, RF engineers have the flexibility to build video tests into structured sequences. The solution enables simplified integration with other data service tests, such as MMS (multimedia message service), SMS (short message service), HTTP, FTP, e-mail or WAP (wireless application protocol)."

Using a H.324M video stack, location information is captured along with measurements such as call setup time, media initialization time, call holding time, media transfer time, audio and video bit rates and error rates. Test results are collected together with physical layer and protocol information, providing a powerful set of measurements to resolve video service-implementation issues early. Video connectivity and video telephony tests are available now; video streaming is planned for release in the next few months.

The video tests run on the Agilent E6474A wireless network optimization platform under the wireless application measurement software (WAMS). Video connectivity tests are included with WAMS, and video telephony is available as upgrade option E6474A-742.
