Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd said it has developed a complete GSM/GPRS chipset solution, including the baseband and protocol software, with Japan-based semiconductor supplier Rohm Co. Ltd.

Sasken expects Far East-based OEMs and ODMs to use the chipset with its protocol software in design solutions expected to launch by April 2005.

Rohm's GSM/GPRS solution is a single chip solution integrating both analog baseband and digital baseband, enabling mobile phone set customers to design low power and small foot print phone sets. The GSM/GPRS chip is available in a reference design that includes a sound IC, system power management IC, image processor IC, along with a reference board.

"Rohm now can offer a GSM/GPRS solution with a protocol stack that is easy to integrate and perform very well in a variety of solution environments." said Masaru Kubo, director of Rohm's Communication LSI Group.
