Anadigics RF transmit module provides high integration

Anadigics Inc. introduced a 6-by-6mm integrated RF transmit module for quad-band GSM/GPRS handset applications during last week's 3GSM World Congress in France. The AWT6202 PowerPlexer module integrates an InGaP HBT power amplifier (PA), pHEMT antenna switch, harmonic filters and CMOS power control circuitry in one of the industry's smallest transmit module.

"The highly integrated 6-by-6mm PowerPlexer module leads the industry in integration, performance and size, thereby significantly reducing the board area, component count, cost and time-to-market for GSM/GPRS handsets," said Dr. Ali Khatibzadeh, VP of Wireless Products at Anadigics.

The new module supports dual-, tri- and quad-band applications in any combination of the GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800 and PCS1900 bands, and is GPRS Class 12 compliant. According to the company, the device delivers exceptional harmonic performance and efficiency with 45 percent module efficiency in the GSM900 band, equivalent to 57 percent PA efficiency, and 40 percent efficiency in the DCS band, equivalent to 52 percent PA efficiency. It also offers an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection of 15KV at the antenna port.

The integrated power control scheme of the AWT6202 interfaces directly with the base-band power control digital to analog converter (DAC), reducing the number of external components required for the power control function and facilitating fast and easy production calibration. In addition, the use of the company's pHEMT antenna switching technology delivers excellent isolation and linearity with support for four receive ports, said Anadigics.

The AWT6202 is priced at $3.75 in quantities of 10,000 units.
