O2Micro Int. Ltd has received 7 claims under United States patent number 6,856,519 for its Royer Raptor Inverter controller invention.

The patented Royer Raptor uses a multi-tasking pin technique to reduce the overall pin count of the IC and number of external components, while maintaining the functionality and performance of the inverter controller. It is designed for multiple-CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) LCD monitor and LCD TV applications.

"The Royer Raptor invention is a cost-effective CCFL power management controller. The IC architecture offers customers a reduced IC pin count resulting in an overall inverter module cost reduction and ease of design," commented Yung Lin, EVP of O2Micro's Intelligent Inverter business unit.
