Holtek Semiconductor Inc. expanded its range of 8-bit General Purpose A/D type MCUs with the release of the HT46R51, HT46R52, HT46R53 and HT46R54 devices, which can be sub-divided according to their OTP Program Memory Capacities of 1K, 2K, 2K and 4K, respectively.

Internally, all devices possess a 12bit ADC along with a PWM converter output. According to the device chosen, the internal ADC will have either 5 or 8 input channels and relies on an external voltage for its reference source. The number of available I/O pins also varies (either 14 or 22), again depending upon which device is selected. Common to all MCUs are 88 bytes of internal RAM and a single 8bit timer along with an external interrupt function, which is activated by an external signal on its interrupt pin. The addition of a PFD output enables audio frequencies to be generated on an external output pin, said the press release.

Additionally, said Holtek, these devices contain many of the features found in its other MCU devices, such as excellent noise rejection capabilities, which when combined with their internal Watchdog and Low Voltage Reset functions, provide designers with a range of powerful devices with many protective features.

The internal 12bit ADC inside each of the four new products can sense the changing values transmitted by externally connected sensors, which when added to their price/performance ratio, make them suitable for use in the battery charger application area, as well as other application areas such as automotive peripheral products and household electrical appliances.

The HT46R51 and HT46R52 are available in 18-pin DIP and 20-pin SSOP packaging options, while the HT46R53 and HT46R54 are available in 28-pin SKDIP and 28-pin SOP packages.
