Hitachi Ltd disclosed the development and operational verification of what it bills as the first chipset supporting FSB (Front Side Bus) speeds of 667MHz for the Intel itanium 2 processor. Hitachi added that this new development also employs its virtualization feature with Intel's Virtualization Technology.

"Delivering advanced server platforms that combine Hitachi's chipset with Intel Itanium processor family and Intel Virtualization Technology will provide real benefits to IT managers looking to improve their virtualization solutions in the enterprise," commented Patrick Gelsinger, SVP and GM of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group.

The virtualization feature was demonstrated using the next generation Intel Itanium 2 Processor (code name Montecito).
