Emerson Network Power's Liebert GXT2-500 extends the GXT family of true on-line uninterruptible power supplies (UPSes) down to 500VA to meet the increasing demand for low-power yet highly critical applications such as gateway routers, firewall and VPN concentrators in IP telephony applications.

"The growth of IP telephony is increasing the demand for power quality and reliability in network closets," said Rich Zajkowski, Liebert product manager. "We want to make sure our customers have mission-critical power protection everywhere they have mission-critical systems. That is driving the development of smaller UPS systems that utilize true on-line technology, like the new Liebert GXT2-500."

The on-line UPS (i.e., a "double conversion" system largely employed in data centers and computer rooms, which converts incoming ac power to dc and then back to ac to create a pure or closely sinusoidal output waveform while isolating the load from power-line disturbances) features 28 minutes of battery run-time at full load.

Users can add backup capacity to the system with available battery cabinets that extend the run-time by more than one hour per cabinet. The UPS offers four 5-15R output receptacles.

Pricing for the Liebert GXT2-500R120 UPS starts at $460. It's available in 2U-high rackmount or tower versions.
