Shipment of large-sized TFT-LCD panels to surge by 59 percent

Research firm DisplaySearch forecasts 59 percent growth in shipments of large-sized TFT-LCD panels this year. According to the firm, manufacturers in Taiwan will increase their shipments of TFT-LCD panels from last year's 56.5 million units to 90 million units. Last year, Taiwan's share in global shipments reached 40 percent.

The expected shipment of 90 million units is expected to exceed the 84.8 million-unit shipment of two leading South Korea-based companies, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd and LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd. However, the two companies are expected to retain their top spots in the global market. Last year, their total shipments reached 58.4 million units, accounting for 42 percent of the global market.
