Electronics maker Unity Opto Technology Co. Ltd announced plans to double its monthly capacity of CMOS image sensors used in optical mouse in June.
According to Chairman C.H. Wu, large orders from Agilent Technologies Inc. are pushing the company to increase its production capacity from 5 million units to 10 million units.
Unity Opto already delivered 1.5 million CMOS image sensors to Agilent at the beginning of the month. Wu says shipments will likely reach 2 million units next month and that the company expects its image sensor shipments to reach 80 million units this year.
Meanwhile, Unity Opto also commenced production of LED tube lights, with 20,000 units shipped to retail stores in Japan. Monthly shipments for the devices may reach more than 50,000 units in June.
Wu says that the company's overall revenue this year is expected to gain 50 percent growth from last year's NT$3 billion ($96 million at NT$31:$1).
