Agilent Technologies Inc. added three new capabilities to its test and measurement portfolio for 1xEV-DO which will help network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) streamline device transition from development to manufacturing, and enable service providers to speed deployment, maintenance and optimization of 1xEV-DO networks.

"Our 1xEV-DO portfolio provides the ability to test devices, signals and services from the early stages of development through deployment," said Pat Byrne, president of Agilent's Electronic Products and Solutions Group. "Developing 1xEV-DO devices and troubleshooting wireless data networks is now faster and more efficient than ever before."

1xEV-DO is the evolution of cdma2000 air interface technology, enhanced for high-speed packet data transfer. It enables 3G wireless communications systems to deliver business-critical data services such as email, Web browsing and e-commerce, explained the company.

The three expanded solutions include the E6706A lab application, the E7495B base station test set and the wireless network optimization platform.

For designers of wireless devices, the E6706A 1xEV-DO lab application works with Agilent's E5515C (8960) wireless communications test set to simplify and speed up the development of access terminals. This 1xEV-DO desktop network in a box delivers true dynamic network performance using default packet application support for real-world throughput analysis and network emulation. And by combining it with Agilent's Baseband Studio for fading, this solution enables device testing under simulated faded network conditions, reducing the cost associated with testing devices in remote locations.

Base station test set
For wireless service providers and NEM installation teams, the E7495B base station test set addresses their CDMA 3G deployment and maintenance needs. Since 1xEV-DO uses time division techniques to parse its data bandwidth among users, installers and service providers may encounter different issues relative to traditional CDMA systems, said Agilent. The E7495B Option 205 with its new 1xEV-DO TX analyzer and source verifies conformance and proper network operation. Additionally, the test set offers 1xEV-DO frequency and frequency error, and MAC code domain power.

Wireless network optimization platform
The Wireless Network Optimization Platform now enables 1xEV-DO drive-test scanning capabilities through a scalable, integrated, air interface measurement system for RF engineering and operation teams. This software enhancement helps service providers identify interference issues and neighboring cell site configuration problems, enabling the smooth introduction and ongoing maintenance of 1xEV-DO wireless broadband data networks. This system is used to support integration and maintenance of networks, obtain comprehensive call performance statistics, and quantify the end-user's experience for both voice and data, added Agilent.

The additional 1xEV-DO test products include design and simulation software for communications product design; signal analysis tools for modulation measurements, modulation analysis and manufacturing test; signal generation and channel simulation tools for design and manufacturing; and test sets for device design, manufacturing and repair.

More information about these products is available at the company's website.
