Kopin Corp. has introduced an active-matrix LCD-based microdisplay with an 800 x 600 pixel resolution in a 0.59-inch diagonal package the company said offers the highest resolution for its size.

Called the CyberDisplay SVGA, the microdisplay is built using nanotechnology and is based on scalable color filter microdisplay architecture from Kopin.

According to the company, their new microdisplay is ideal for mobile devices requiring high resolution such as DVD players and games and is suited for wearable computer applications. In addition, the display will enable personal video eyewear products displaying 3-D stereoscopic video.

The microdisplay incorporates a patent-pending low-voltage architecture that allows interface voltage swings to be reduced to 3.3V for all digital control signals. The low-voltage architecture lowers the display's power consumption to 100mW. Each 15-by-15?m? full-color pixel comprises three primary-color dots, creating a total active array of 2,400 x 600 dots.

The CyberDisplay SVGA can display 16 million colors and offers a power-saving sleep mode.
