Specializing in demand creation Memec Impact intend to help Asian design engineers shorten their product development cycle and improve time-to-market by exhibiting total solutions for communication applications at the IIC-China/ESC-China Conference & Exhibition 2005. The company will demonstrate mobile phone and ADSL modem solutions in Shenzhen on April 4-5 and in Shanghai at April 12-14.

"As a distributor we offer resources to supplier partners and provide OEM customer base with vast product knowledge and design expertise. We recommend a one-stop shopping to our customers and brief them about the solutions they want, making it easier for them to decide on which to pick," said Victor Koh, Memec China managing director.

The one-stop mobile phone solution combines Memec Impact complementary products including: complete GSM mobile phone platform from Siemens; charger controller, LDO dc/dc converter and EEPROM memory from Microchip; LCD panel, CMOS sensor and flash memory from Sharp;

color graphics and multimedia accelerator from nVIDIA; ESD/ EMI protection overall solution, charger controller, flash/ backlight LED driver and DC/ DC converter from Semtech Int'l AG; game controlling, pedometer and picture orientation from Memsic; and RealView tools from ARM.

With Conexant Argon 4x2 as the core element, the ADSL modem solution includes DSP, AFE, and voice coprocessor from Conexant, Sharp flash product, Semtech product for protection function, and Microchip product for reset function. The solution supports ADSL/2/2+ bridge and router, 802.11a/b/g and VoIP.

Koh added, "At Memec we help our customers at a very early stage. We help them design the specs and after that, we work with them to do the layout. Whatever the layout, we do the selection for the component. We offer new solutions for improved features and improved functions."

Memec Impact will also showcase other technologies for the consumer market, such as Ember wireless networking solution for ZigBee, which the company claims to be the first and only complete solution for embedded wireless tool to device networking, IES cost-effective appliance controls solution, and iWatt power tools for LCD TVs.

The company will also present applications for automotive and industrial markets, including reference designs of security system for automotive and heat meter. Along with the design and engineering group Memec Design, Memec Impact developed the two designs based on Microchip microcontrollers. Memsic accelerometer/sensor is also applied in the security system design for motion sensing function.

According to Koh, coming to IIC allows potential OEMs to get access to the latest components, solutions or even to new innovative applications. He explained,"The capability of the silicon is very powerful for example, DSP can do image, storage, and even data. But there are still a lot of other applications that DSP can do, same thing for MCU and FPGAs. Having a forum, such as IIC can be very helpful in demand creation."
