Display equipment manufacturers are developing inkjet method patterning equipment to replace color filter exposure systems and OLED deposition processes for the next-generation technology.

In Japan, the Nippon R&D Community is developing inkjet equipment and will be used for Sharp Corp.'s eight-generation (8G) production, which will shift from using color filter process to inkjet processes.

Photondays, Systems Technology Inc. (STI) and Sunic System Ltd have all developed inkjet patterning equipment utilized in manufacturing OLEDs, LCDs and PDPs.

STI reports that it will be releasing the equipment for mass production in the second half of next year. Sunic, meanwhile, is cooperating with the Korea Electronics Technology Institute on developing polymer OLED deposition equipment.
