Elma Electronic Inc. unveiled a new PXI chassis for instrumentation systems. According to the press release, the 8-slot Type 32 PXI chassis offers a portable and flexible format for easy prototyping and development. It measures 17(H)-by-10.5(W)inches, features 2 x 5.25-inch HH devices, and includes a 350W plug-in power supply with an option for dual redundancy.

The company added that its new product is specifically designed for portable use and is geared toward protection from the wear-and-tear these units often face. The vinyl clad aluminum covers are scratch-resistant, while the ergonomic handle allows for easy and comfortable portability. In addition, the rubber-soled feet prevent the chassis from marring or scratching desktops.

The PXI chassis is compliant to PXI Specification R2.0, and its power supply unit meets the X-ray specification for DXP-PX4 systems. Like all Elma Type 32 chassis, this PXI version features an option for the company's patented EMI spoons to ensure EMC compliance. Cooling is achieved via a 90cfm fan on the bottom of the unit, and the chassis also has rear I/O and system monitoring options.

Pricing for the PXI portable tower starts under $2,000, depending on slot size and configuration. It has a lead time of 4 to 6 weeks.
