Shenzhen Techno and Freescale Semiconductor jointly announced at the IIC-China 2005 that Techno has rolled out Portable Media Player (pmp) that is based on Freescale's iMX21 platform.

China's first PMP, this product features Freescale's i.MX21 processor, MPEG-4 playback, RM/RMVB, AVI video formats, 1-Megapixel camera, 20GB HDD and Linux OS, said Mingcheng Zhu, executive director of the PMP Project at Techno. The company added that they own IP on hardware circuit design application-layer software.

Aside from providing its own brand of PMP, Techno also plans to provide manufacturing service as well as sell PMP technology licenses to other manufactures. Pricing for such licenses are $10 for each unit under the quantity of 10,000, $7 for each unit with the quantity of 10,000 to 100,000, and $5 for above 100,000.

Freescale added that many customers have already been showing strong interest in the development of these mobile multimedia products. However, due to lack of resources, Freescale could not provide in-time support service to each customer. And that is why they had teamed up with Techno.
