Samsung Electronics has proved that it is not just a supplier of memory products but of image processors as well. During the recent IIC in Shenzhen, China, Samsung introduced its line of processors for use in digital TVs, RF devices, display driver ICs and CMOS image sensors (CIS) for mobile phone applications.

The company exhibited a development board, called the S5H2200 DTV processor. The board consists of S7D0118 driver IC and a smart phone development platform based on S3C24A0 processor.

Aside from the SXGA (1280x1024 pixels) CMOS imaging chip S5K4AAF, Samsung is also sampling 1/3.2-inch optical lens and highly integrated UXGA (2 million pixels) CMOS camera chip S5K3BAFX, which can be used to develop camera phones, PDA or PMP. The chip includes CIS and image signal processor (ISP). Users can implement a camera module featuring 1600-by-1200 pixels by just adding optical parts and a back-end imaging processor.

The company also developed a CIS suitable for 1/2.5-inch optical lens and OXGA with 2048-by-1536 pixels, and is planning to develop CIS with five million and seven million pixels, separately. Moreover, Samsung included a 10-million-pixel CIS development plan in its 2006 roadmap.
