Seiko Epson Corp. announced that it will mass produce 1080p high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS) LCD projector panels (D5 series) this month.

With the introduction of the new series of HTPS panels in OCTober of last year, Seiko Epson says it is targeting 50 percent increase in its shipments of HTPS panels to 3.45 million units this year. The company intended to ship HD-ready panels in May. However, the production underwent ahead of schedule.

The D5 series features enhanced brightness by increasing the aperture and contrast ratio. Applications are targeted at the consumer sector, with the panel enabling users to see true-HDTV picture quality on projection systems using the 3LCD design.

Currently, 80 percent of Seiko Epson's panel output are supplied to various electronics manufacturers, and the rest are utilized for their own projectors. Last year, the company says it accounted for 55 percent of the total global output of HTPS panels.
