Chipcon AS and its subsidiary Figure 8 Wireless have been granted the ZigBee version 1.0 certification for a platform based on Chipcon's CC2420 RF transceiver and Figure 8 Wireless' Z-Stack.
The certification means that OEMs developing on this platform are developing products that are certifiable by the ZigBee Alliance and can carry a ZigBee certified logo after completing limited testing of their own. Chipcon is a ZigBee alliance promoter along with Honeywell, Freescale Semiconductor, Motorola, Samsung, Philips, Mitsubishi and Ember.
Figure 8's Z-Stack is bundled with Chipcon's hardware development kits. Z-Stack is backed up by a complete package of products for the developer including Z-Tool, an embedded programming environment available directly from Figure 8, developer's training and support.
Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee alliance, said, "Chipcon and Figure 8 Wireless have both been instrumental in getting us to this point. Certification of Z-Stack on the first pass is testament to the company's expertise in wireless networking and ZigBee in particular."
