Texas Instruments Inc. touts its TPS65150 as a complete, high-accuracy power supply chip that provides all four operating voltages for the tft-lcd panels serving in today's large-screen monitors and TVs.

The IC, which can be powered directly from a nominal 12V source, incorporates two high-efficiency dc-dc converters, two charge pumps, adjustable power-on sequencing functionality and protection circuitry. The power sections include a 2.6A boost converter working at 500 or 750kHz to provide system source voltage (VS) accurate to 1 percent; a 1.8A non-synchronous step-down converter accurate to 1.5 percent to provide the logic voltage (VL); positive charge pump (for VGH) and negative charge pump (for VGL), both with adjustable regulated output, to ensure optimal picture quality; and adjustable sequencing circuitry for VGH and VGL.

The TPS65160 includes over-voltage protection for the boost converter; short-circuit protection for the buck converter; and thermal shutdown. Additionally, an under-voltage lockout function shuts down the device at inputs lower than 6V.

The device's data sheet can be found at online. The TPS65160, in a 28-pin TSSOP, is priced at $2.60 each in 1,000 quantities. Evaluation modules are also available.
