CPT increases shipment of LCD panels

Panel maker Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd (CPT) claims that large orders of LCD TV panels from Europe-based companies are pushing the company to increase shipments for the products.

CPT CFO James Wu has confirmed that the company has started to ship large volumes of 32-inch LCD TV panels per month. He says that the company is manufacturing 32-inch LCD TV panels from its 4.5-generation (4.5G) facility by cutting two 32-inch panels from a single substrate.

He adds that the company's output is expected to significantly increase as it shifts production to its 6G plant, where one glass substrate can be cut into eight 32-inch panels. CPT's 6G production line is scheduled to begin operations early next month, while volume production will follow in June.
