ZiLOG Inc. expanded its mcus eye BLDC, AC induction motor control apps" target=_blank>z8 encore! XP microcontroller (MCU) line up with the release of the F08xA, an 8KB flash memory. This addition extends the flash memory range of the Z8 Encore! XP family to include 1-, 2-, 4- and 8KB varieties.

According to the company, this development presents additional design opportunities for new and existing customers. Existing customers, for example, now have greater scalability and an easy and extended migration path from lower to higher memory sizes, enabling them to grow and develop their code and add functionality to their designs. For new customers, the rich feature set, ease of design, high level of integration and low overall system cost that the Z8 Encore! XP family offers presents a compelling product offering, added ZiLOG.

"Extending our flash options for new and existing customers to include 8KB flash memory opens up the device's unique on-chip peripherals to customers looking for larger flash memory sizes at a competitive price," said Ramesh Ramchandani, EVP of sales and marketing at ZiLOG. "The integration of so many on-chip features also helps shorten development time and saves on development costs, especially important in today's increasingly cost-sensitive marketplace."

The Z8 Encore! XP F08xA series is based on the eZ8 CPU and supports 8KB of flash program memory and 1KB registered RAM. The devices feature up to eight single-ended/differential channels of 10bit A/D conversion and a trans-impedance amplifier for current measurement. An on-chip temperature sensor allows die temperature measurement over a range of -40C to 105C. These devices also include two enhanced 16-bit timer blocks featuring PWMs and Capture and Compare, and up to 18 vectored interrupts with programmable priorities provide increased application flexibility.

The new series also features an on-chip internal precision oscillator (5MHz/32KHz) as a trimmable clock source that requires no external components. A new single-pin debugger and programming interface simplifies code development and allows for easy in-circuit programming, while a full-duplex UART provides serial communications and IrDA encoding and decoding capability.

The new product from ZiLOG will be available in 20-pin and 28-pin packages with the optional 10bit ADC. A full-featured development kit supporting the F08xA series is available, including a full ANSI C compiler for $39.95.
