Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. and Authenex Inc. announced a new version of the Authenex HDLock product. A two-factor authentication security solution, HDLock for Toshiba Notebooks is designed to address the overall need for data security in any mobile computing environment and was developed to work with Toshiba's EasyGuard technology initiative to provide the notebook and Tablet PC market with a more secure and user-friendly mobile computing experience.
HDLock for Toshiba Notebooks employs 128bit AES encryption to secure data stored on a notebook's hard drive. An Authenex A-Key USB token and a personal password -- which is stored on a chip embedded in the A-Key -- provide two-factor authentication and act as a key to the notebook. Ensuring that data is secure from unauthorized access in the event that a notebook is unattended, lost or stolen, without the A-Key and proper password, the hard drive remains encrypted and inaccessible to anyone. If the user loses their A-Key or forgets their password, Authenex offers web-based recovery options for A-Keys and passwords that are easily accessible and simple to use while not sacrificing security.
"Whether using a notebook or Tablet PC for personal computing or work with highly sensitive patient and client financial information, the ability to ensure data security has become increasingly important to mobile users," said Taro Hiyama, VP of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems. "The EasyGuard initiative illustrates our commitment to the security needs of the market, making the most advanced technologies both available and easier to use for our customers. We're confident the HDLock for Toshiba Notebooks will provide our customers with the high level of data security they require," Hiyama added.
