Sierra Logic has added NEC Corp. to its list of customers who have adopted its SR-1216 Silicon Storage Router. The Sierra Logic SR-1216 is an integrated silicon Fibre Channel-to-Serial ATA (SATA) solution. It is being shipped by NEC as part of its iStorage product family, a broad offering of storage solutions ranging from entry-level to data center use.

Bob Whitson, co-founder and CEO of Sierra Logic, said, "Our SR-1216 Storage Router chip and firmware allow NEC to add SATA drive support to their product line without affecting their customary mission-critical reliability. Passing their rigorous qualification program has truly proven the quality and merit of our solution."

Tetsuyuki Hishikawa, senior manager, 1st engineering department, system file products division of NEC, added, "By adding NEC's expertise in high-reliability storage systems on top of the Fibre Channel emulation from Sierra Logic, we are now able to offer our customers a broad offering of storage solutions: High-end online storage and cost-effective nearline storage."
