Wintek registers 30 percent increase in TFT-LCD revenues

Panel maker Wintek Corp. reports a 30 percent revenue increase from the TFT-LCD segment last quarter.

According to Susie Lee, vice president and spokesperson, high demand for TFT-LCDs pushed the company's revenues up from 12 percent to 30 percent.

However, Wintek's revenues from the segment came from low-margin lines, thereby pulling down its gross margins three percentage points down to 17.3 percent. Decreasing prices of STN panels and the currency appreciation affected the company's overall revenues as well.

This quarter, Wintek still expects a drop in its revenues, and its shipment of TFT-LCDs will likely remain flat. Its TFT-LCD line is not operating at full capacity but its STN and CSTN production lines are fully utilized. The company, which holds a 13 percent share in the global handset display market, aims to maintain revenue decline rates at 10 percent at the most.
