Power management IC supplier O2Micro Int. Ltd was granted 14 claims under United States patent number 6,861,823 for its high accuracy voltage mode battery charging invention; a continuation of the invention issued August 2003 under United States patent number 6,611,129.

The company's battery charging IC architecture regulates the charging cycle to provide accurate charging and charge termination. According to the company, the architecture offers the design community higher charge accuracy, simplified loop compensation, and a lower parts count than other battery charge controller solutions available today.

"This significant patent continuation allows O2Micro to expand the Charger family benefits for solutions built on this core architecture," remarked Alex Hartular, VP of O2Micro's Intelligent power business unit.
