Atmel and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute have signed a letter of interest planning to further cooperate on digital broadcasting standards such as DAB, DMB and DRM.

Atmel will leverage its capabilities in microcontrollers, advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory and RF components to work with KETI on replacing analog broadcast technology with digital technology. Both parties have worked together for several years in similar areas and established cooperation including the exchange of information and documents, and visits of scientists and technical personnel.

Richard Jong-Ho Paik, Director of KETI's DxB Communication Convergence Research Center, said in a statement, "I believe that Atmel's expertise in chipset manufacturing together with KETI's know-how in receiver module development can create a synergy effect, allowing us to provide various types of digital broadcasting related products with good quality to consumers at a reasonable price."
