Prices of 17-inch and 19-inch LCD monitors in mainland China have been slashed by up to $12 as distributors try to stimulate demand in time with Labor Day holidays.

Currently, 19-inch LCD monitors are available at $362, as offered by first-tier manufacturers, including BenQ Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd and ViewSonic Int. Corp.

Prices of 17in LCD monitors have also gone down by up to $24 in the mainland China market. LG Electronics Inc. offers its 17in LCD monitors at $302 while BenQ's monitors are available at $259.

The International Data Corporation (IDC) says that overall demand for monitors in mainland China is expected to increase by 2.1 percent to 18.5 million units this year, with demand for LCDs projected to reach 6.4 million units while CRTs may reach 12.1 million units.
