Test-and-measurement supplier Agilent Technologies says its VEE (Visual Engineering Environment) Pro 7.5 software now provides access to National Instruments' (NI) data-acquisition (DAQ) hardware products, including PXI, SCXI, and PC plug-in data-acquisition cards and modular instruments.

VEE Pro is an intuitive graphical programming environment that can help speed development of measurement and control, analysis, test system, and data-acquisition applications.

VEE Pro 7.5 also adds seamless access to Microsoft Excel and to Microsoft .NET controls and functions. VEE Pro 7.5's menu-driven communications with Excel gives you a way to create spreadsheets for presenting measurement data and test results.

VEE 7.5 gives you the ability to incorporate .NET controls into graphical user interfaces. It also provides wizard-like tools to simplify using the .NET Framework, as well as IVI-COM drivers.

Speed up development

VEE is also a software product of Agilent Open, a program that provides a range of system-ready instruments, open industry software, and PC-standard I/O. The goal of Agilent Open is to simplify the process of connecting and programming test systems so you can focus on solving engineering problems, rather than creating and managing test systems. In VEE Pro 7.5, NI DAQ products appear as devices in VEE's so-called Instrument Manager. They can be accessed through an interface much like a standard VXI plug-and-play driver, with function panels for programming.

VEE Pro supports instruments and devices from all vendors. Version 7.5 adds 40 new sample programs for 150 Agilent instruments. Using VEE Pro, Agilent says you'll be able to set up and take measurements and analyze, display, and store data, all within three minutes from start-up.

Price and availability

Agilent VEE Pro 7.5 is expected to be available in June, priced at less than about $1500. Upgrades for previous versions of VEE Pro are also available, with prices starting at less than $500.

Agilent VEE Pro can be downloaded from the company's website.
